Janet Earwaker led the first walk of 2024. As the paths and fields around Fleckney were anything but mud-free due to recent bad weather, Janet wisely decided to take us off to Rolleston.
As usual, we met at the village car park (///loses.always.huts) by 9.30 a.m. We then drove to the lay-by on New Lane (B6047 – ///array.advising.spoils) close to the Rolleston Estate entrance. We then walked to Skeffington, hung a left, and went across one short field thence into Billesdon. Once in Billesdon, it should have been a “hands up who fancies refreshment?” as pub-wise there is a choice of The New Greyhound or The Queens Head. Unfortunately, we arrived in Billesdon well before either pub was open!
Moving on from Billesdon, we walked along the road, crossed the B6047 onto the Rolleston Estate again, and took a track that led us back to the road we started out on and thence back to the cars.
The walk was about 6.5 miles in length and was mostly on hard stuff. The highest point of the walk was around Park Farm and the path leading to the farm was squishy in places, but easily passable.
