For the spring away break (10th to 12th May) we will be based at Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome site. It is a site I have visited on several occasions and it has a very nice camping area for tents with optional hook-ups. The site is on Ham Lane at the edge of Ferry Meadows Country Park.
The area is flat, so the walks will be very doable for people who struggle with hills and stiles because there aren’t any! I might actually manage to do all the walks on this trip!
The first day will be a familiarisation with the local country park and include a bluebell wood walk and lakeside trails. A toilet stop, with a cafe or picnic benches, whichever is preferred. We can finish with a refreshing 🍸 drink at one of the nearby pubs at the end of the walk.
The next day will be a walk to Peterborough, part of the walk is adjacent to a steam railway and part is by the river Nene. Once at Peterborough, there will be free time to explore the city on your own and we can regroup at one of the pubs for “one for the road” before heading back to base.
There will be something for Sunday if anyone wants it and it will probably include the canal.
So if you are tempted to join in with this trip, the address of the campsite is Ferry Meadows Caravan and Motorhome Club, Ham Lane, Peterborough, PE2 5UU (
///older.page.trout).
There is also a Premier Inn on Ham Lane
Address: Premier Inn Peterborough (Ferry Meadows) Hotel. Ham Lane. Orton Meadows, Peterborough, PE2 5UU (
///voices.mixed.drama).
If people select this venue there will be no need for transport for the evening meals as there is Beefeater Granary (
///fuel.keys.loved) on the site of the Premier Inn and the Gordon Arms (
///moves.human.ground) a short walk away.
