Fleckney Walking Club Sunday Walk

Walk Leader: Phil Williams

Arthingworth streets are not very wide so the best place to park would probably be by St. Andrew’s Church (///factor.jelly.attention). The walk starts by heading northeast along Oxendon Road until the houses run out and there is a footpath to the left. This path aims due east until meeting up with a mixture of The Macmillan Way, The Midshires Way and Brampton Valley Way.

Turn left along the “way” and follow it for a good two miles or more, going through the Kelmarsh Tunnel along the way. At the crosspaths at Green Lane Crossing bear left and head northeast along the bridleway up to where it meets the A14. Instead of going under the road, turn sharp right and follow the bridleway southwest for about 1/2 a mile going straight across the crosspaths at Blue Covert and eventually left onto a zig-zag path that comes out on to an nameless road the leads northwards to Harrington. Follow this road into Harrington and on to Main Road and eventually up to The Tollemache Arms for a well-earned brew.

There are two routes that will take you back to Arthingworth. If conditions are good then the footpath leading from the pub would be on the cards but there are stiles along that route. The alternative is the bridleway just before Warner’s Distillery and Falls Farm. Being a bridleway there are no stiles along it’s length. It emerges on Braybrooke Road where a left turn leads back to the church and The Bull’s Head which, I am told, has two restaurants and a bar.

General information:

The Fleckney Walking Club meet every other Sunday for a walk of about 7 to 9 miles with a pub stop somewhere along the route.
We leave the village car park at 9:30 a.m. (///loses.always.huts).
For these walks you are advised to wear good quality walking boots and carry weatherproof clothing.
We suggest you also bring refreshments as a coffee stop is also usually on the cards.
For those who are car-sharing to walks outside of Fleckney, passengers are requested to subsidise their driver by the amount of 20p per mile (one way). For example, if the start of the walk was 10 miles from Fleckney the fee would be 10 x 20p = £1.

During the summer months we also have Thursday evening walks of about 4 to 5 miles in length.
These generally start and end at a pub!
We meet at the village car park, by 7 p.m. (///loses.always.huts).

In the event of a walk being cancelled due to inclement weather (or any other reason) the walk leader will communicate the cancellation by email in the first instance and also be at the start meeting point to advise any members who miss the email.

The annual cost to join the Fleckney Walking Club is £10 (Sundays and Thursdays) or £5 (Thursdays only) payable on your first walk.
