🚶‍♀️ Thursday Evening Walks
Still Stepping Through September!

Normally, by the time August rolls around, our Thursday evening walks would be winding down—just like the daylight. Traditionally, we’d have packed up our boots and headed off to nearby villages for a 4 to 5 mile ramble, returning home with tales of stiles, sheep, and the occasional nettle ambush.

But this year, we’ve done things a little differently.

Instead of driving out, we’ve stayed local—and what a treat it’s been. With Fleckney as our hub, we’ve explored the glorious paths threading through Saddington, Smeeton Westerby, Wistow, and Arnesby. Turns out, you don’t need to go far to find rolling fields, winding tracks, and views that make you stop mid-step and say, “Would you look at that sunset!”

We’ve been setting off at 7 pm, which gave us just enough time to enjoy the golden hour without needing a torch or a headlamp (though we do admire those who bring one anyway, just in case they get lost in conversation).

And here’s the exciting bit: for the first time ever, we’re continuing the walks through September! Yes, the evenings are getting shorter, so we’ll be starting a little earlier—6:15 pm sharp—but the paths are still calling, and we’re still answering.

We’ve welcomed new walkers this season, which has kept our numbers steady and our conversations lively. Whether you’re a seasoned rambler or someone who just likes the idea of a gentle stroll with good company, you’re very welcome to join us.

The walks are free, open to all, and usually between 3.5 and 4.5 miles. Expect stiles (sometimes), mud (if it’s been raining), and sunsets (on the clear nights). Bring sensible shoes, a sense of humour, and maybe a biscuit to share—we’re not saying it’s required, but it does earn you instant popularity.

So if you’ve been meaning to join us, now’s the time. And if you’re one of our regulars, don’t even think about hanging up your boots yet—we’re not done walking, chatting, and admiring the view.

See you Thursday!
