The Walk:
Norman led this week’s walk from Great Oxendon, Northamptonshire.
We parked in Main Street and headed westward along Main Street until we picked up a footpath heading north. This footpath soon meets the Jurassic Way and we turned right along it until it, in turn, meets up with the Brampton Valley Way.
Turning right again we followed the Brampton Valley Way for about 2 miles after first traversing our way through one of the abandoned tunnels. About 400 yards after crossing the River Ise, we took the left fork of the path that takes you to Kelmarsh Road – the right fork continues along the Brampton Valley Way going over Kelmarsh Road and merges with Macmillan Way and Midshires Way.
Turning left onto Kelmarsh road we followed it all the way to the small village of Arthingworth. We walked through the village and then took the left turn at the church and headed along Oxendon Road until we came to a ‘No Through Road’ sign.
Shortly after this sign is a footpath to the right, just before the road leads through a field. The footpath leads gently uphill to Coldmeadow Spinney and Round Spinney, reaching it’s highest point where it crosses Desborough Road. Here, the footpath joins the Midshires Way for just over 500 yards before linking with the Macmillan Way which took us all the way into Braybrooke and The Swan for refreshments.
Once refreshed, we doubled back along the Macmillan Way for about half a mile and swung right along another footpath heading northwest until it crossed the Brampton Valley Way. Travelling south on the Brampton Valley Way we started the gradual ascent back to Great Oxendon.
