Ratby, Groby 9 miles

Bluebell Walk Map

Kathy led us through the Bluebells from Ratby.

Starting from The Plough car park (///solo.causes.needed) we walked along the lane to Burroughs Wood. We then wandered through there among the Bluebells and onwards to Martinshaw Woods. Kathy didn’t stick to the footpath shown on the map as she wanted to extend the route further into the woods … she turned this into quite an adventure!

Then we crossed the A50 in Groby through, went through Lady Hay Wood up to the edge of Newtown Linford, turned back along the road past Groby Pool and through the Dowry Furlong Wildlife Area which is managed as a hay meadow to increase the diversity of plant species. We then moved on to the Stamford Arms (///folds.raft.snack) for the pub stop where we had a good old chinwag.

The route back to Ratby was along road, footpaths, and part of an old railway track.

The entire walk was supposed to be just under 8 miles but turned out to be nearer 9, but there were no stiles along the way. We felt we deserved an extra drop of sustenance after the walk and at £2 a pint in the Plough (cash only) it would be rude not to imbibe!
