Isle of Wight Daish Coach Trip

Isle of Wight Adventure: Five Days, Many Footpaths

On 29th October, 6 members of the group embarked on a 5-day visit to the Isle of Wight, staying at the Daish’s Hotel in Shanklin.

Windy Walk to Culver Cliff

Thursday saw us on a 5-mile walk to Culver Cliff on the east of the Island. The weather was sunny and the views excellent, but it was very windy and some chose to catch the bus for the final 2 miles of the return journey.

Chair Lifts and Coastal Gusts at The Needles

Despite adverse weather reports, the next day four of the group set off on a coastal bus ride to Alum Bay on the west of the Island. From there, two caught the chair lift which went steeply down to the beach and back, before re-grouping for a fairly short walk to The Needles. We avoided any rain, but not the 40 mph winds. The other two members of the group spent the day exploring Newport.

Ventnor Views and Footpath Detours

On our final full day on the Island, the weather was again kind to us, so we all set off on a 4-mile bus ride to Ventnor. From there, four decided to walk back to Shanklin, overcoming diverted and closed footpaths. Once again, we were treated to a really lovely walk. After exploring Ventnor, the other two chose to catch the bus back to Shanklin for a well earned rest and a bit of refreshment.

Ryde, Bembridge, and a Bus-Sheltered Shower

With time to spare, another bus trip beckoned, so most of the group travelled up to Ryde and then back via Bembridge. The only rain was whilst travelling on the bus.

Looking Ahead: Isle of Wight, October 2026

With so many footpaths available on the Island, plus excellent bus services, a return visit is planned for October 2026.
