Barrow, Seagrave, Sileby, Mountsorrel

By Phil

23rd June 2024: The walk begins at the car park for the Three Crowns Inn. Cross the High Street and walk up Church Street past the Roundhouse. The Roundhouse is actually octagonal and was previously used as the village lock-up (a small gaol) as well as for funeral bier storage. The single-storey building behind it was once the village smithy.

Gumley, Smeeton, Foxton, Lubenham

By Phil

9th June 2024: John and Denise took the lead on this walk and they led us from the cricket ground on Main Street, Gumley, down the road and through the gate into the church wood. We turned left out of the wood and followed The Leicestershire Round over Smeeton Hill and down to the canal feeder.

Smeeton Walk

By Phil

2nd June 2024: Phil and Martin reconnoitred the route for this walk. Phil’s plan was to head along the canal and through fields to Smeeton Westerby. The best place to join the canal seemed to be at Cranes Lock. This meant a walk through the village up to Leicester Road and then over a couple of fields, across Kibworth Road and over two more fields to reach the canal.

The Bluebell Walk 2024

By Phil

5th May 2024: Kathy’s Bluebell Walk is always a fantastic one. This year was no exception although the weather pushed us back a week and into Easter Sunday. With permission, we parked at the top left of The Plough car park. We then walked along the lane to Burroughs Wood, wandered through the trees among the Bluebells, and then onwards to Martinshaw Woods.

3rd March 2024: Take the Leicestershire Round from Fleckney to Saddingtont then over Smeeton Gorse – yes that big hill! Continue along the Round all the way to Gumley, then pathways to Laughton. Rest, eat, return along paths, bridleways, and road.

Enderby and Narborough

By Phil

4th February 2024: Walk around some of the lesser known parts of Enderby and Narborough with a pleasant walk along a disused railway. From the start point, the walk leads up to the crossing and into the Enderby Park and Ride. Well, on any other day but Sunday it would! With the Park and Ride closed for the day we had to walk around it.

Rolleston, Skeffington, Billesdon

By Phil

7th January 2024: Starting from a lay-by near Rolleston and taking in Skeffington and Billesdon, this 6.5 mile walk is mainly on hard stuff. The reason being that prior to the walk the area had been literally flooded and it was felt wise to avoid fields of mud.
