The Walk

Walk Leader: Dave Bromley

It was nice to see some new faces for the third of the 2019 Fleckney Walking Club’s Thursday walks.

Park in the car park of the Rose and Crown, by prior arrangement, and head northwest out of the village along Uppingham Road. Just after a new housing development, take the turning to the right, opposite Deane Gate Drive, that leads to Redver’s Farm. Just after the farm are two footpaths, go straight on and take the path to the left through a field. When you reach the end of the field fight your way through the undergrowth and turn right onto another path.

This deep-rutted path leads past a wood on the left and climbs steadily up past Monk’s Grave to the site of the Medieval Village of Ingarsby. After admiring the view from the top of the hill, find the footpath to the left that leads to Ingarsby Lane. Follow the lane downhill and take the footpath on the left just before the bend in the road to the right. Continue northwest along this path through fields until you reach a farm track that crosses the path.

Turn left onto this track, the lowest part of the walk, and continue southwards over a dismantled railway and past Keyham High Leys until you come out onto another T junction. Turn left onto this path and go past the gap in the hedge that you came out of earlier and continue on for a few yards before taking the path to the right – unless you want to go around again!

This path leads past a solar farm with a high fence on the left. Follow the path round until it comes out onto the road leading past Redver’s Farm and back onto Uppingham Road and thence to the Rose and Crown for you know what!
