As usual, we will meet at Fleckney village car park (///loses.always.huts) by 9.30 a.m.
We will park up near The Heathcote Arms in Croft, somewhere along Hill Street (///fancied.easels.croutons). Kathy will then lead us along Huncote Road until we hang a right to go past St. Michael and All Angels Church to pick a footpath leading around part of Croft Quarry. The path runs parallel with the road for a while before heading up Croft Hill and back down to a stile near to Croft Hill Road. The path continues adjacent to the road for a while and exits onto the road via a gate.
Cross the road and take the footpath heading westwards over Thurlaston Brook to Sandpit Farm. Turn left onto Thurlaston Road and almost immediately right at Stony Bridge to pick up another footpath heading southish. This footpath exits onto Pingle Lane shortly after passing Potters Marston Hall.
Turn left onto Pingle Lane and then right at the junction of Stanton Lane and Huncote Road. Take the latter and where it bears sharply to the left, take the track directly opposite. Immediately go through the gate on the left and follow this path south through Stoney Stanton passing another quarry and a cemetery on the way.
Cross New Road and join a footpath leading to Stoney Cove. Turn sharp left onto Sapcote Road and leave the road on the right that takes you to Stoney Cove itself and, more importantly, Nemo’s Bar and Restaurant. This is, unsurprisingly, the Pub Stop, and a very nice one too!
Once suitably refreshed, we continue away from Nemo’s and take the path past Walker’s House Farm. This path leads to Broughton Road. A left along the road is followed by a right onto a bridleway. This track leads over the River Soar at Sopers Bridge before entering Croft at Broughton Road. A left onto this road over the railway bridge and along Station Road and we are back at the cars.
The walk is a smidgen over 7 miles with some undulation and a few stiles.
