Houghton

By Phil

4.5 miles: If you like to describe walks by their shape on the map, this is a lariat, or lasso. From Houghton-on-the-Hill head past Redver’s Farm, hang a right to take you past Monk’s Grave and bear round anti-clockwise past Old Ingarsby towards Keyham and then south back to Redver’s Farm, Houghton, and the Rose and Crown.

Cosby

By Phil

5 miles: Thursday walk led by the Cow Whisperer, Dave Bromley. An interesting and easy walk, even if we didn’t stick to the footpaths!

Fleckney

By Phil

4 miles: This was an easy “Let’s get back into it” walk. From the car park, past the school and then anti-clockwise around Fleckney Grange, The Meadows and Lyndon Lodge Farm. We ended up in The Golden Shield – where else?!?

Laughton

By Phil

8.5 miles: My first “proper” walk as a leader. This walk can be made longer or shorter quite easily (it started off as a 12 miler!). From Laughton to the canal, along the tow-path for a while, then down the map to Lubenham before heading north to Foxton and then back to Laughton.

Swithland

By Phil

8 miles: And a bit! From Swithland Wood, passing Woodhouse on your left, to the outskirts of Quarndon and then back via Swithland Reservoir, Swithland itself (and The Griffin Inn), before heading back to the car.

Aston Flamville

By Phil

8 miles: Head out of Aston Flamville along the Leicestershire Round. Follow this path under the motorway, through a teensy weensy bit of Hinckley, under the railway, to Burbage Common. After the common hang a right along Leicester Road and then another right along a footpath that takes you to the railway line once again. Continue on this path south-east to the roundabout over the motorway and continue in the same direction to Sharnford.

Launde Abbey

By Phil

9.5 miles: From Launde Abbey in a large anti-clockwise loop and into Braunston-in-Rutland for refreshments in either the 18th century Old Plough or the 17th century Blue Ball.

Ratby

By Phil

8 miles: The Bluebell Walk, or how get mislaid in the woods! When we finally emerged from Martinshaw Woods we headed to Newtown Linford and then down to Groby skirting the quarries. The Stamford Arms was our watering hole before heading back to the (edge of the) woods.

Great Oxendon

By Phil

9 miles: Down (mapwise) along the Brampton Valley Way and then sharp left along Kelmarsh Road into Arthingworth. North out of Arthingworth along various pathways and into Braybrooke and The Swan. Double back out of the pub but then head northeast to the Brampton Valley Way once more and thence back into Great Oxendon.

Marston Trussell

By Phil

6.5 miles: The latin inscription “Pereunt Et Imputantur” just below the clock face of Marston Trussell’s St. Nicholas Church is translated as “They perish and are reckoned”, meaning that the hours and days perish and are reckoned to our accounts. Not a lot of people know that! Drinks were at The Red Lion in Sibbertoft.
